Class A Office Space

Soundview YMCA Cogeneration
Soundview YMCA Cogeneration

This amazing remodel included variable speed air handlers and sensors that read the room occupancy. The room sensors control the temperature and air speed, so that when the room is empty no energy is wasted. With shallow ceiling to deck space customized soffits and duct work was required to make the system work and look great. We also installed stainless steel linear vents to match the overall architectual feel of the space.

The New Soundview YMCA will be a great addition to the Branford community offering 2 pools, cardio, weights, teen center, and aerobics. They will have a high energy demand in order to heat 2 pools 24 hours per day, as well as hot water for showers, and running a dehumidifier. Controlled Air is installing a cogeneration system and a custom air handling unit with a dehumidifier that will save 360,000 kWh per year with a little over a 3 year ROI. Click here for more

CUNO

Cuno PK MACH Energy EfficientBoiler

CUNO needed to replace their outdated and inefficient boiler. Controlled Air replaced it with two PK MACH boiler which run at 95% efficiency, saving them $17,800 per year in utility costs. We helped them work with the local utilities to get a rebate of $70,000 to help them pay for the new boiler and installation. As well as installing a hot water reset and pump control giving them better control over their system.

Doncasters Precision Casting Shell Room

Doncasters process cooling and dehumidification system

When Doncasters needed to expand their manufacturing process line, they turned to Controlled Air, Inc. to design and install the process cooling and dehumidification system. The tolerances for this design were very challenging as the production line was for aircraft parts and the project needed to be installed while the existing production line was still operating. Controlled Air, Inc. started by coordinating an engineering study on the load capacity of the current building. A custom Bry-Air air handler was chosen with desiccant dehumidification. The second challenge came with the installation of the equipment. This installation required one side of the building being removed and having only one inch of clearance on either side of the air handler. The team from Controlled Air, Inc. was up to the challenge and the rig and installation were completed without any incident. The system, controlled by a Johnson Control energy management system, meets all of the requirements for the newly expanded manufacturing process line.

YMCA New Canaan Pool Project

YMCA New Caanan Energy Management System

The existing pool enclosure was becoming damaged due to the high humidity levels a pool creates. Controlled Air, Inc. designed and installed a complete HVAC/energy management control system to replace the old mechanicals. This system provides humidity control to protect the building envelop and the energy recovery heat wheel system maximizes the system efficiency.

YMCA Wallingford Boiler Replacement

YMCA Boiler Replacement

Faced with rising energy cost to heat their pool water, the YMCA of Wallingford awarded the task of upgrading the boiler system to Controlled Air, Inc. Using Lochinvar boilers with a Johnson Control energy management system, Controlled Air, Inc. installed an energy efficient system that met the rigid rebate requirements of the local power company. The YMCA of Wallingford was eligible for a 21% rebate towards the purchase of the new equipment.

YMCA Hamden Boiler Replacement

YMCA Boiler Replacement

Providing heat for the pool water and domestic hot water, the outdated boiler system consumed large qualities of natural gas whenever there was a call for hot water. The YMCA of Hamden asked Controlled Air, Inc. for a recommendation to replace the boiler system. Controlled Air, Inc. designed and installed a multi-stage Lochinvar boiler system that reduced energy by only using just enough of the boiler system to meet the demand, not the entire system as before. The results were a significant savings on the amount of natural gas used.

PCC Structurals Wax Room Chiller - An aging process chiller put the production capabilities of PCC Structurals at risk so they turned to Controlled Air, Inc. to design and build a new process cooling system. Controlled Air, Inc. recommended installing a new chiller on the roof so a steel support system was designed and installed. A new Carrier chiller controlled by a Johnson Control Metasys energy management system provides both process and comfort cooling. PCC Structurals now enjoys a reliably and energy efficient system.

University of Bridgeport Wahlstrom Library Chiller Replacement

Energy Management System

Replacing 650 tons of cooling can be a big investment. The University of Bridgeport entrusted Controlled Air, Inc. with the task of designing and upgrading the chiller plant for the Wahlstrom Library. Controlled Air, Inc. installed two Trane CenTraVac 325 Ton chillers. One chiller had a variable frequency drive while the other was designed to have the capability to be field upgraded to support an ice storage system in the future. Located next to Long Island Sound, corrosion was a major problem with the old cooling towers and a concern of the University of Bridgeport. Controlled Air, Inc. installed two 335 ton Delta polyethylene cooling towers. The system was designed with variable frequency drives for all fan motors and pumps. Controlled by a Johnson Control Facility Explorer management system, the new installation met the stringent requirements set by the local power company for rebates. The level of efficiency for this system designed by Controlled Air, Inc. was such a vast improvement over the old system, the University of Bridgeport received a 51% rebate towards the purchase of the equipment.

Energy Management System

Controlled Air, Inc, replaced boilers manufactured in 1940 with 95% efficient Patterson Kelly Mach boilers. In a cost saving measure, Controlled Air, Inc. designed and installed a stainless steel flue to go through the existing chimney.

A Johnson Control Facility Explorer energy management system was utilized to manage the boilers and pumps. All work had to be performed during the heating season so Controlled Air, Inc. created a temporary boiler system to manage the load while construction was underway.

The University of Bridgeport received energy rebates for the installation helping to offset a portion of the purchase of the system. High efficiency boilers, energy management system, and rebates results in a quick return on investment.
